Operation Red Shield is a program supporting Members of The Armed Forces and Their Families with ties to New Jersey. It was launched by The New Jersey Division of The Salvation Army in the first days of Operation Iraqi Freedom in March of 2003.  The program carries on a Salvation Army tradition dating back to the Spanish American War.

With the close of 2005, AT&T NJ Pioneers-Chapter 139 volunteers recorded over 5,000 volunteer hours staffing Operation Red Shield activities.  Typical activities have included staffing a wide variety of events including troop sendoffs and welcome home events, as well as, collecting, sorting, and shipping gift items to those serving overseas.

In a recent note to Scott Shepherd, Operation Red Shield Coordinator, Major General Glenn K. Rieth, New Jersey’s Adjutant General expressed his sincere appreciation for the program saying, “Thanks for all you do in support of our soldiers and airmen.  You are truly part of the NJNG Team and our extended family.”
