Volunteers Needed to Help Build WheelChair Ramp, November 14-15th, Leonardo, NJ: Please join the ATT pioneers to build a handicap access ramp for the Blind Citizens Association complex in Keansburg, NJ on November 14, 15, 21 and 22. This ramp project is a little more complicated than previous ramp projects, so several days are required to complete the project. No skills are required to participate just a willingness to help our community. Any level of participation on any day would be helpful. We are also looking for a volunteer to take still or video photos of the project. Other task include: digging post holes, carpentry, painting, smiling and having a good time. If you are interested in participating or would just like further information please contact David Macauley, 732-420-4792 drmacauley@att.com
Monmouth County SPCA, MT Calendar Sale, November 13th & December 17th: Need volunteers to help sell Monmouth County SPCA calendars and holiday cards at Middletown Labs cafeteria. Proceeds support the shelter animals. Contact Valerie Craig, valine@gmail.coom, 732-585-2356.
Calling All Techies! NJ's InfoAge Science and History Center is urging you to visit www.NJHallofFame.org to learn about NJ's 2008 Hall of Fame nominations of citizens who have made significant contributions to our world. Guglielmo Marconi is one of six nominees in the "Enterprise" category. He was an Italian-born inventor who won the Nobel Prize for his "contribution to the development of wireless technology" and did pioneering work in New Jersey. His induction would give much-needed exposure to InfoAge, since the museum is located on the original grounds of Marconi's Belmar High Power Wireless System receiver (1914) in Wall, NJ. The transmitter site was located in New Brunswick, and both the Wall and New Brunswick locations are mentioned in the nomination. Marconi is also connected to several other NJ locations including the Twin Lights Lighthouse in Highlands where the first American demonstration of radio took place in 1899. So visit the site and vote!!

Comprised of more than 600 volunteers – including over 70 professional musicians – Holiday Express delivers music, food, gifts, financial support and friendship to adults and children who are physically and mentally disabled, living with AIDS or homeless, as well as the isolated elderly and others in need of the gift of human kindness during the holiday season and throughout the year. Holiday Express, December 2, Staten Island. The Pioneers Northeast Chapter works with Holiday Express on various events in New York and is planning to help with the Staten Island Special Olympics on December 2nd from 6-8 PM (set up is at 5:30 PM). Contact Kathie Sterzinar at ksterzinar@att.com for more information.
Holiday Express, December 7th, Fort Dix or Asbury Park, NJ: The venue will either be at Fort Dix (most likely) or at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park (possible), TBD, but your help is sincerely needed. About 3000 service members and family members of National Guard service personnel are expected to attend. Volunteers may perform a variety of tasks, including unloading trucks containing gift bags, food items, and costumes; doing face painting and/or arts and crafts with the families; serving food; distributing gift bags to the guests. In addition, volunteers are needed to dance with the guests and with the show. Write to jerseyshore@attnjpioneers.org if you are interested.
Pioneer Store: The Aramark Gift Shop is closed, but the Pioneers soon hope to be operating the Pioneer Store in a new way. We will still be selling AT&T and Pioneers branded merchandise - look for Pioneer Store 2.0, coming soon. Please hold on to your eyeglasses and hearing aids until we set up a new donation mechanism, but cell phones and accessories will still be collected courtesy of United Teletech, who is hosting our collection box in their Building A location. Middletown Pioneers have collected over 3,750 cell phones and pagers to date.
2009 AT&T Pioneers NJ Chapter and Club Elections: Election ballots will be distributed in November - we strongly encourage to respond and vote!!!

CPC CULINARY ADVENTURE. The CPC Foundation, with help from the Pioneers, successfully held their 2008 Fall Fundraiser on Monday October 27 to support CPC Behavioral Healthcare's mission to help children, teens, adults and families living with depression, mental illness, substance abuse, or disabilities that impact learning. Fundraising is important because CPC treats all persons in need regardless of their ability to pay for services. The 28 sponsors of food and beverages included Doris and Ed's Seafood Restaurant, The Lake House Restaurant and Bar, The Melting Pot, Rodney Strong Vineyards, Osteria Dante, and Red's Frozen Custard. Spectacular entertainment was provided by Champion Pizza Spinner and Mozzarella puller Nino Coniglio, the U.S. Pizza Team's Pizza Triathlon Winner from Il Bergante in Manhattan. Thank you to those who volunteered, and a special thank you to those who attended! Visit http://www.cpcbehavioral.org.
NJ BLIND CITIZENS ASSOCIATION. The NJ Blind Citizens Association/Camp Happiness would like to update the Pioneers on progress at the Camp in the past year. Attendance at the day programs for blind adults has increased 50% in the past two years. The computer program has seen the same increase, and two legally blind instructors provide daily lessons. The NJBCA recently concluded its first public art exhibit at the Middletown Arts Center. A joint venture with St. Lucy’s School for Blind Children (Philadelphia), the exhibit was a resounding success. The organization is grateful for the Pioneers support, and is also looking forward to the Pioneers installing an accessible ramp to the day program building. Please visit the website at www.njbca.org.
