BEACH BASH, Sunday, September 7, 2008. A professional surfers association, Surfers Healing, led by Israel Paskowitz (who has an autistic child himself) takes between 100-200 autistic children actually surfing in the ocean for the day. During last year’s event, more than 1000 family members and friends were in attendance. Every single wave that a child rode was accompanied by a standing ovation from the entire crowd. There were craft tents (manned by volunteers) who kept the children busy until their scheduled time to surf came around. A free lunch for the entire crowd was provided, as was music from a DJ. This event is sponsored by: The Family Resource Network/Autism Family Services of NJ/Surfer Healing Association and the TelecomPioneers NJ Headquarters Club (Bedminster). Volunteers are needed for all aspects of the event.
